Description

The art of making lithophanes date back to the early 15th century China, but also made a big appearance in France during the 1800’s.  Over time, the skill of making liphophanes was shared around the world.  Porcelain and other materials with similar properties were used because it was found that these materials of different thickness, allowed various levels of light to pass through. Artisans used their wonderful skills and countless hours to hand carve the image of a person or object into the material. When the piece was complete, they were usually displayed with candles behind the lithophane or as a decorative and translucent window into a room, but with a beautiful and artistic touch.

Today, lithophanes can be produced in modern day materials with similar qualities, taking advantage of amazingly accurate CNC technology.  At The Crafts Man, we offer you the opportunity to turn your favorite and priceless photos into a solid, durable, beautiful work of art that can last for generations to come.

Not every photo qualifies to be converted into a lithophane.  But, we will work with you to choose the best possible photo or computer enhancements to make a lower quality photo work better.

When choosing a photo: Black & white grey scale work best, but we can convert color photo’s as well. The primary subject of the photo should be sharp, clear, and the background should be solid colors that contrast to the primary subject. See the sample photo’s on this item.

NOTE: The Crafts Man will return photo’s received via postal mail to the person who sent them (return address required). Photo’s received via email attachments, will be archived by The Crafts Man upon delivery of the finished product to the customer. The Crafts Man will never share, sell, or distribute customer photo’s to any persons, companies or entities without the written consent of the person or persons submitting the photo. Design documents created during production of a lithophane that include customer provided photographs are the property of The Crafts Man and may not be shared with any other persons outside of the company.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
* Enhanced Custom Lithophanes require a design consultation to finalize the overall design and price, before placing the actual order.
* A representative of The Crafts Man, LLC will contact you at the phone number or email you enter below on this form.

PHOTOS:
* Your photo must be a sharp, clear, high resolution image and may be color or black & white.
* Preferred image file formats are *.jpg, *.png, *.dxf. *.bmp images should be avoided.
* The primary subject of the photo should be in sharp contrast to any background objects.
* Avoid pictures that contain very busy backgrounds that are not the focal point of the picture.
* Do NOT send print photos due to the risk of damage or loss.
* If you are scanning a print to a file, the minimum resolution of the image should be 600 x 600. Although, 1,200 x 1,200 works best with lithophanes.

Photo's that do not meet or exceed the minimum criteria outlined above, may not result in a quality lithophane.
DISCLOSURE: We take your privacy very serious. Any photograph submitted to The Crafts Man, LLC via email will only be used for the purpose of designing and building your product as ordered. Even though the photo's will remain in our secured systems, the photo's or the product will not be re-produced, shared with or sold to any other entities without your written permission to do so.
